マナスル初登頂60周年記念祝賀会


  2016年4月29日にマナスル初登頂60周年記念祝賀会がカトマンズで開催されましたので、報告します。日本山岳会が主催した会場はラディソン・ホテルで、夕方6時半から9時まで盛大に行われました。

  祝賀会の開会はネパール式の点火式(写真1)と鏡開き(写真2)で行われました。後ろのスクリーンに示されている”60周年記念祭”の表現として”Diamond Jubilee”が使われていますが、ハクパ・ギャルブさんから100周年記念祭の表現ではないかとの指摘がありましたので、ネット*で調べると、「君主の在位60年記念式典を指す語。19世紀の英国女王ビクトリア、在位中のエリザベス2世などが”Diamond Jubilee”を迎えている」とのことで、英国風の考え方がこの表現に現れているようです。

   ネパール山岳会アン・ツェリン・シェルパ会長からは"A friend in need is a friend is indeed."(まさかの時の友こそ真の友)との表現で、地震に際しての日本の協力に感謝の意が表明されるとともに、ネパールには1389の未踏峰があり、マナスル初登頂60周年記念を契機として、地震で沈滞した山岳観光をさらに促進していきたいとの決意が表明されました(写真3)。
  また、マナスル初登頂者の一人として、第1次隊の成功の後、第2次隊員として登頂した日下田實氏は、食料担当の苦労のほかに、 「第2次隊も好天に恵まれ、のんびりと頂上に立つことができた」ことや、「日本とネパールの仲間に恵まれ、素晴らしい登山ができた」ことから、関係者の皆さんに感謝の意を表されました(写真4)。

   バル・バハドゥール・マハット観光文化航空大臣は、ネパール山岳会アン・ツェリン・シェルパ会長のあいさつに加えて、地震災害後のさらなるネパールの観光行政の発展の決意を表明し、そのための協力・支援の要請がのべられました(写真5)。
  ひきつづき、 マナスル初登頂60周年記念祝賀にあたり、乾杯の儀式が行われ、写真左の神埼忠男氏や右の田部井淳子氏、さらにその左のアン・ツェリン氏などが列席しました(写真6)。

  会場には200人を越える参加者があり、 マナスル初登頂60周年記念祝賀会を祝いました(写真7)。祝賀会後は、前列の左から日下田實氏、宮原巍氏、今西邦夫氏を囲み、後列右が神埼忠男氏、左が今田明子氏などが集まり、記念撮影会が行われました(写真8)。

  本日4月30日は、 マナスル初登頂60周年に加えて、ローツェ峰も初登頂から60年になり、両峰の60周年記念祝賀行事がネパール山岳協会の主催で取り行われることになっています。
  なお、私は明日5月1日から1週間、ポカラの国際山岳博物館で従来の展示更新にくわえて、今回の マナスル初登頂60周年記念祝賀会の写真情報も展示する予定になっています。

地震に関する 二つの国際会議の報告

 

はじめに
  4月25日は「2015年ネパール地震」から1年目の記念日で、地震に関する下記の二つの会議がカトマンズで行われましたので、報告します。

写真1 交通渋滞の旧王宮前の通りは、ジャカランダの並木で紫色に彩られる。

  カトマンズの街は大気・水質汚染やゴミ・交通渋滞などの環境問題をかかえていますが、温かくなる4月中旬は紫色の木の花、ジャカランダで彩られます(写真1,2)。ジャカランダの影響でしょうか、街の広告や女性のサリーまでもが、ポカラのカエンジュ*の赤色に比較すると、カトマンズでは紫色が好まれるように感じます。ポカラはより熱帯的で、朱に近い赤色のカエンジュが街を彩っているのと対照的です。

  Department of Mines and Geologyが主催した会議1)International Workshop on Gorkha Earthquake, Nepal(4月24日~25日)はYak&Yeti ホテルで開催されました(写真3)。かつてのラナ王朝を思わすような歴史的建物が会場で、会議の冒頭に、昨年の地震で被害にあわれた方々への1分間の黙とうが行われました(写真4)。

  会議1)の内容とスケジュールをみますと、地球物理的、地質・地形学的な手法で「2015年ネパール地震」の特徴を明らかにする研究成果が多く発表されました。ぼく自身のは発表「Himalayan Earthquake Museum 」*は、最後の社会学的な視点からの研究グループの中で、行いました。いかにさまざまな手法で地震の特徴を明らかにしても、残念がら、地震を防ぐことはできないのですから、せめて地震被害を少なくする手立てが現実的に必要であることを、かつてポカラの国際山岳博物館で学芸員をした経験から、「ヒマラヤ地震博物館」でも若い学生たちにヒマラヤの地震について知ってもらい、被害を軽減する手立てを考えてもらうことが必要であることを発表したところ、できるだけ早く、カトマンズにヒマラヤ地震博物館を、また雪崩災害にあったランタン地域にヒマラヤ災害情報センターをつくる構想に参加者が興味を示してくれました。できれば、カトマンズのランドマーク・タワーで破壊されたビムセン・タワーを保存し、その隣にヒマラヤ地震博物館を建設する構想にも大方の賛同が得られたので、この構想の推進に心強さを感じました。

写真5 会議2)の冒頭でも被害者への1分間の黙祷が行われた。

  National Reconstruction Authority とJICA共催の会議2)Nepal Earthquakeoneyear memorial Build Back Better and Resilience Workshopは4月25日の午前中にRadissonホテルで行われましたので、会議1)と掛け持ちで参加してきました。この会議2)でも冒頭、地震被害者への黙祷が行われました(写真5)。JICAは実にさまざまな地震災害の復興事業を行っており、その一環として友人のハクパ・ギャルブ・シェルパさんの会社が担当して行った学校施設の復旧事業もパネル展示で紹介されていました(写真6)。

  会議2)は、Nepal Reconstruction AuthorityとJapan International Cooperation Agency(JICA)の共催ですので、研究色よりも行政色の強い対策事業の成果の発表が中心でした。ぼく自身はこの会議では発表はしませんでしたが、 以下の2つの点を指摘し、コメントしました。
  まず第1は、JICAは実に広範囲にわたる対策事業を行っているのですが、地上部の建物のデザイン(設計)な どに凝り過ぎている感じがしましたので、見えない地下の軟弱地盤の性格がある粘土や砂からなるカトマンズ湖底堆積物の上に「砂上の楼閣」を作ってはならな いことを、昨年の5月のJICAの会議*で指摘した同様な問題を再びコメントしました。

  また、もうひとつの第2の点は、関西国際大学の村田昌彦教授が行った報告*の中で、神戸では1995年地震の後、「Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution」の博物館を作った結果、年間50万人の見学者が訪れ、学校教育の場としても役立っているという報告がありましたので、前述の会議1)でのぼく自身が発表しました「Himalayan Earthquake Museum 」とも深く関連しますので、神戸と同様な性格をもつヒマラヤ地震博物館の重要性をコメントしました。

  地震に関する二つの会議が終了した4月25日の夕方も、カトマンズは濃いスモッグに覆われ、赤い夕陽が沈んでゆきました(写真7)が、カトマンズ郊外の大学の戻ってみた太陽もまたスモッグの中から赤い朝日となって現れてくるのでした(写真8)。今春は昨春と違って、大気が乾燥・高温状態で汚染物質が溜まり、3千メートル以下の下界はひどいスモッグにすっぽりと覆われ、神々座を拝むことができないのが残念です。

  今後の予定としては、4月29日と30日にカトマンズで行われるマナスル峰の日本隊登頂60周年記念行事に参加した後に、国際山岳博物館で展示更新を 行うためポカラに行きます。このブログの冒頭でふれました朱色のカエンジュのポカラの街並みのかなたに、はたして、マチャプチャリを中心にしたアンナプル ナ連峰の神々の座を見ることができますことを期待しているところです。さらに幸運ならば、その東にマナスルを、また西にはダウラギリの8千メートル両峰を も眺めることができたら、と思っているところです。それでは、皆さま方も、ご自愛ください。ナマステ!
